How We Do It

Raising Funds for Community Impact

The United Way of Southwest New Mexico works to provide the most effective venue for giving and effecting change in our community, consolidating our collective resources for a targeted approach to improve lives by focusing on supporting programs that address the very building blocks for a good life: Education, Income and Health.

Connecting the Community to Available Resources

The GetConnected Database is an online resource available 24/7 from the United Way of Southwest New Mexico online (click here), offering the most current information about programs and service that are available to individuals in our area.
More than 200 local agencies are included in this searchable database with details about their respective programs and services.  The GetConnected Database is our community’s comprehensive resource for connecting our community with the help they need in real time.
You can also call the United Way of Southwest New Mexico office Monday through Friday to speak to someone regarding a service or program if you don’t have regular access to the internet.

Developing Volunteers and Opportunities for Community Impact

The GetConnectedZone is where individuals looking to make a contribution of time and skills are matched with the programs and services that need them most.  The United Way of Southwest New Mexico works with area organizations that are in need of volunteers with specific sets of skills and experience to find a match with a member of the community who is looking to offer their valuable time to a worthy cause.
The GetConnectedZone compiles volunteer opportunities and tracks volunteer hours and recognizes those volunteers making the biggest impact on our community and can be accessed online or in person at the United Way office.

Facilitating Continued Development for Non-Profit Agencies

The United Way of Southwest New Mexico works to be a regular source of support and facilitation to the local nonprofit agencies who are working everyday to improve the condition of our community one person at a time.
This means holding monthly meetings where non-profit executives can network, share successes, discuss challenges and find opportunities to collaborate in order to make the best use of our communities charitable resources; offering per-service training for volunteers who are interested in becoming active members of non-profit boards, continuing education workshops for board members and staff and working year round to support the people who make opportunities for us to improve our community possible.

Our Goals

In 2008, United Way World Wide initiated a 10-year program designed to achieve the following goals by 2018:

  • Improve education, and cut the number of high school dropouts — 1.2 million students, every year — in half.
  • Help people achieve financial stability, and get 1.9 million working families — half the number of lower-income families who are financially unstable — on the road to economic independence.
  • Promote healthy lives, and increase by one-third the number of youth and adults who are healthy and avoid risky behaviors.

These goals are ambitious, but with your help, and by utilizing our core strengths — a national network, committed partners and public engagement capacity — we can achieve them.
